Why Work for RBCFS?

Careers with Rocky Bay Child & Family Services

Rocky Bay Child & Family Services is an Indigenous agency serving all Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek (Rocky Bay First Nation) members both on and off reserve. It was developed to provide prevention focused child welfare services to all members in a holistic, strength-based approach when meeting the unique needs of our children and families. Our service model ensures children and families have the wrap around support and services necessary to build health families so they can succeed and thrive.

We have dedicated staff with education, skills, and most importantly lived experience that they utilize to implement our service model in all that they do to serve our community. We foster a safe work environment that is guided by the seven grandfather teachings which allows employees to grow as professionals in their field, whether that be working directly with children and families or in other areas of the agency. Everyone plays a key role in keeping families together.

Kyle Kauppi

Hello! I’m Kyle Kauppi, the Desk Side IT Support at Rocky Bay Child and Family Services. Born and raised in Thunder Bay, I am deeply rooted in this wonderful community. I’m happily married to Scotia Kauppi, and together we have two amazing children, Emily and Jack, who are my pride and joy.

After spending twenty years in labor and trades, I transitioned to the IT field over two years ago and discovered my true passion. I thrive on solving problems and helping others, which makes my role incredibly fulfilling. My extensive experience in volunteering has shown me the immense satisfaction that comes from contributing to an organization dedicated to community service.

Though I am relatively new to the Rocky Bay Child and Family Services team, I have been warmly welcomed and am continually impressed by the incredible work being done here. I am excited to support my colleagues with IT solutions, whether they are big or small, and to contribute to the organization’s mission of giving back to the community. I look forward to many years of collaboration and service with this exceptional team.

Jessica Colvin

Hi! My name is Jessica Colvin, and I am the Prenatal and Infant Care Worker here at Rocky Bay CFS!

I was raised in Atikokan, and my indigenous roots are in Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation. My childhood memories are filled with playing sports in our small town, and summers at camp with my family.

After work, I come home to my fiancé Ryan and husky Blue in the country just outside of Thunder Bay. We love spending time in bush trails on our property, and of course camping!

My favourite thing about my position at Rocky Bay Child and Family Services is that I get to support young, growing families in their own homes, without being invasive.

I also coordinate programming based on the needs and wants of our clients, both in community and in Thunder Bay.

The best part – the beautiful drive!

Winonah Thompson

I have been working for Rocky Bay Child and Family Services since April 2021 as the Band Representative. My journey prior to this opportunity, I have spent a few years working on my education. I graduated twice from Confederation College where I competed Native Child and Family Services (2018) and Aboriginal Community Advocacy (2019). I had the amazing privilege to attend James Cook University for a student exchange program in Townsville, Australia (2019). After college, I attended Western University to study Psychology and Indigenous Studies (2021).

Aside from my work and studies, I enjoy being out on the land with my family. My goals for this summer is to dance at a few powwows, go camping, swimming, fishing, and travelling! I am excited to be living this life with my son. Working with families while caring for my own has definitely healed my inner child. Life is full of endless opportunities, take the time to explore!

There are no words to explain the deep appreciation I have to be able to work for my home community. As a youth who grew up in the community, its remarkable how far our people have come in terms of well-being and prevention supports. This testimony is dedicated to those who saw the potential in me to take on this special role for our community, Gitchi-Miigwech. Inspired always by Ningozis, Nidede, Nookomis, Gakina Nindinawemaaganag.
